A Joyful North Uist Elopement: Sarah & Sean at Hougharry Beach, Balranald
When Sarah and Sean chose to have their North Uist elopement on the sweeping sands of Hougharry Beach at Balranald Campsite, they knew they wanted a day filled with natural beauty, joy, and personal touches. And from the moment they stepped onto the dunes, to the final dance at Eilean Dorcha Festival, their day was nothing short of magical.
The couple exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony led by the wonderful Rona the Humanist, whose words brought laughter, tears, and a profound sense of connection. Her ceremony captured the essence of Sarah and Sean’s love—warm, deeply rooted, and full of adventure.
Sarah looked breathtaking in a bespoke gown by Mirka Bridal—a dress that moved like seafoam in the breeze and shimmered under the soft Hebridean light. Sean wore a beautifully tailored kilt from MacGregor and MacDuff, perfectly balancing tradition and style against the rugged backdrop of North Uist’s wild coast. They wed with beautiful rings made by Timothy J Sharp and the floral details were absolutely gorgeous — a vibrant, textural bouquet created by Fiona at Flo’s Flowers, brimming with colour and wild charm that mirrored the landscape around them.
Just as we wrapped up their couple portraits, the skies opened in true Hebridean fashion, and we all made a quick dash to The Dunes Larder for shelter and delicious snacks, sharing laughter over hot drinks and sweet treats while waiting out the rain, we soaked up the joy of the moment.
But the celebration didn’t end there. Sarah and Sean gifted me a ticket to the festival that night, where the celebration truly came alive. Under festival lights and the pulse of live music from Skerryvore and Tidelines, I got to capture the couple in their element—barefoot, glowing, and dancing like no one was watching. It was the perfect contrast to the peaceful intimacy of the morning: a wild, joyful exclamation mark on a day that already felt unforgettable.
This North Uist elopement was a beautiful reminder of what matters most—connection, nature, and the freedom to celebrate love in your own way. Whether you're dreaming of windswept vows on the beach or a festival finale to your wedding day, these islands have a way of turning every moment into magic.
From windswept vows to festival lights, this North Uist elopement had it all — and I couldn’t be more honoured to have been a part of it.
